Sitab Optimizes Heavy Materials Logistics With Modula Vertical Lift Modules

Sitab Case Study Summary

Sitab is a Spanish company specializing in interior architecture and partition systems. Since 2006, they have produced customized solutions for offices and hospitals, exporting 50% of their products globally. As highlighted in this Sitab case study, manually handling heavy metal components slowed down their daily operations. To solve this, the company installed four Modula vertical lift modules in just 130 sq ft (12 sq m). This upgrade allowed them to recover valuable floor space and reduce delivery times by 25%.

The Challenge

The company operates in a traditional sector focused on metal and woodwork. Despite handling heavy materials, Sitab guarantees custom project deliveries within two to three weeks. Before automating, operators manually moved large, bulky components. This physical strain drastically slowed down the loading and unloading of shipping containers. The company needed better spatial organization and a high-capacity solution to manage structural parts quickly and safely.

The Solution

In 2021, Sitab installed its first automated warehouse. Today, the facility uses four Modula vertical lift modules equipped with sliding consoles and LED bars to facilitate picking. The latest unit is a Modula DD model, designed with a depth of 49.5 inches (1257 mm) to accommodate the bulkiest metal structures. The trays measure 157 inches (4 meters) in length and support a massive load capacity of 2,204 lbs (1,000 kg). Sitab created special supports inside the trays and uses zero-weight lifters (manipulators) to help operators lift the heavy goods effortlessly. Additionally, the IT team seamlessly integrated the company’s ERP system with the Modula WMS software.

The Result:
The new system completely transformed their logistics operations. The company recovered an enormous amount of floor space by condensing storage into a tiny 130 sq ft (12 sq m) footprint. The specialized trays and lifters accelerated container loading and unloading. Consequently, Sitab reduced overall delivery times by 20% to 25%. The automated workflow eliminated the exhausting manual steps that previously caused warehouse delays. Thanks to the intuitive WMS interface, operators now manage products easily and have eliminated picking errors.
