Founded in 1911, Manifattura Guarnizioni Colombo & C. is a historic Italian company that produces gaskets and sealing systems for industrial machines and plants. Known as “COLOMBO” by industry insiders, the company has always been regarded as a highly qualified reference point for technicians, engineers, and skilled maintenance workers.
It operates in a very large number of sectors, including shipbuilding, food, steel, oil & gas and renewable energy.

With such a large inventory of gaskets and seals in stock, the company needed a more efficient way to store its inventory while optimizing the warehouse operations. The traditional shelving system took up an excessive amount of space, was not efficient, and was prone to picking errors.

Manifattura Guarnizioni Colombo & C. consolidates storage and boosts efficiency with Modula VLMs

Thanks to the implementation of vertical automated storage solutions, Manifattura Guarnizioni Colombo was able to store its large inventory of gaskets and seals in a high-density storage location.

In 2014, they bought 3 Modula Lift MX50D units with external bays to store the components in the designated receiving area.

Seeing the advantages the vertical storage units brought into the warehouse operations, the company added 13 additional Modula VLMs in 2017 to manage the inventory of the finished gaskets and seals in the picking preparation area.

The VLMs, equipped with Modula’s warehouse management system (WMS) solution, were easily connected to their ERP system to help track the flow of inventory in real-time. As a result, the company was able to store the parts in a more compact area, as well as boost productivity and picking accuracy. This has led to quicker turnaround times, easier re-ordering processes, and better operations.
