Document archive storage at the Enzo Ferrari Library gets up to speed with an automated solution
Case Summary
The “Enzo Ferrari” Library at the University of Modena and Reggio Emilia in Italy houses a large collection of documents used by students and faculty in its engineering department. In total, about 10,000 volumes are stored in the library. They were looking for a document archive storage solution to address a few key challenges.
The Problem
Slow retrieval and inadequate document archive storage protection
The volumes were stored in an enlarged space, on two separate levels with four flights of stairs connecting them. Retrieving them was slow and cumbersome. In addition, many volumes may have required storage in a basement, deeming them “non-essential.” They also may have been subject to dust in the basement, damaging the materials.
The Solution
An automated document archive storage solution
A Modula automated storage solution eliminated all the problems. Not only did it save space and retrieval times, it helped preserve the documents because the storage system itself is sealed. Furthermore, the inventory of documents could be kept continually up to date and their movements traced thanks to the storage system’s automated technology.
