Bios Line Streamlines Operations with Modula VLMs
Case Study Summary
Founded in 1986 in Padua, Bios Line is a leading company in the field of dietary supplements and cosmetics, offering around 500 references to 5,000 customers in Italy and over 40 countries worldwide. To enhance efficiency and adapt to technological challenges, Bios Line integrated Modula Vertical Lift Modules (VLMs) into their operations. As a result, they have significantly improved order processing and workflow.
The Challenge
Before implementing Modula, Bios Line faced logistical issues that hindered their order fulfillment processes. Operators spent excessive time traveling long distances within the warehouse to retrieve materials for individual orders. This limited productivity and efficiency. The need for a solution that could streamline operations, reduce errors, and improve working conditions became evident as the company expanded its product offerings.
The Solution
In 2017, Bios Line installed its first Modula VLM to address these challenges. This move not only saved space but also enhanced ergonomics and operational efficiency. With the implementation of four Modula MC25D units, one operator can now prepare up to 10 orders simultaneously, a significant improvement over the previous system.
The integration of the Modula system with put-to-light technology has streamlined the picking process. Each order is assigned a unique barcode that guides operators to the correct items, indicating the location and quantity needed for fulfillment. The use of an alphanumeric LED bar provides clear instructions, ensuring accuracy and reducing errors.
Bios Line now efficiently manages between 150 to 300 orders per day with the Modula system. Once an order is completed, it is moved to a designated area for packing, where another operator can easily add additional items as needed. This seamless integration has allowed the company to redistribute resources, optimizing personnel for other critical roles such as packaging.
The successful integration between the Modula WMS and Bios Line’s ERP software ensured a smooth integration process, resulting in an efficient, user-friendly system that quickly met the company’s operational needs.
